Medieval Manuscripts Revealed on the Web

Hello from Henry Walters' Library Online! It's been a while since we last posted, and that's because we've been busy. All summer we've been digitizing away with very good results. We've broken the "40 barrier," meaning that more than 40 manuscripts now exsist as full digital surrogates with accompanying metadata that conforms to the highest international standards for digital preservation. It also means that we've generated a lot of data, which is slowly but surely making its way to the outside world for others to see and share. Do have a look at the photos that have been posted on this site (just go to the All Photos page and they are right there) and that Will Noel has posted on FLICKR (http://www.flickr.com/photos/medmss/3807847873/). We'll update as new developments develop.

It's also been a fun summer, with the addition to the digitization team of Imen Djouini, our summer intern--yes, we've pulled another one over to the Dark Side! She's been an enormous help in keeping our productivity up as both Diane and Ariel got to spend a week each in Charlottesville at Rare Book School (thanks, boss!), Ariel to study digital humanities projects with David Seaman and Diane to learn about making XML work with relational databases with Daniel Pitti. Imen has also been invaluable in keeping things going as Diane has suffered a hand injury, effectively debilitating the digitizer's digit. We'll miss her for sure when she leaves us next month to go teach English in France. Good luck and thanks for everything, Imen!

We'll certainly have more to share soon. Until then, happy trails...
